Introducing the New Bull Bitcoin Platform

On Monday April 28th 2025, we will be migrating away from the old Bull Bitcoin platform to a fully new and redesigned website. No action from you is required. All of your data will be securely and seamlessly transferred to your new Bull Bitcoin account.

The new platform looks very different! That's normal, don't be alarmed. The same services we have been offering are still available. Only now, they are better, faster and easier to use.

We have been working on this major upgrade for 4 years. We are confident you will be blown away by all the improvements we have made.

In total, 15 software engineers contributed to create the new Bull Bitcoin platform. We believe we have the best infrastructure of any crypto exchange on the planet. When it comes to Bitcoin-specific technologies, we are unmatched. This multi-million dollar investment in our future allows us to achieve planetary scale and gives us a shot at becoming the world's biggest Bitcoin company. 

This is what taking the Hard Path looks like. We do not cut corners. We are builders. We are engineers and the products we create have a singular purpose: to help you reclaim your financial sovereignty.

Our software systems are designed for resilience, security, privacy, scale and speed. But most importantly, they are designed to not rely on third parties. All our software is built in house and self-hosted on bare metal servers. This sets us apart from the vast majority of Bitcoin companies, which "rent" software from 3rd parties and slap their logos on a white-label app over which they have little control and which leak their users' data to external service providers.

What this means for us is that we can conquer new territories, new use-cases and markets. We have already proven this by launching in Costa Rica, Europe and Mexico. You can expect a lot more countries where Bull Bitcoin will be available.

Our Bitcoin buy and sell services will also be available to any app developer via API, so that Bull Bitcoin will become integrated in multiple web, desktop and mobile apps. Bull Bitcoin acts as a liquidity provider and a payment processor. One day, millions of people will be using our infrastructure to send and receive Bitcoin, and they might not even know it.

We are extremely excited for this new milestone on our journey. We are very grateful for our community of users which has supported us throughout the years and without which none of this would have been possible.

Awesome New Features 

1. Smoother, more enjoyable user experience. We’ve removed all the complexity from the process. New users won’t need instructions on how to use it because it’s so intuitive even your grandmother can figure it out. 

2. KYC for new users will be insanely fast. Most users will have a fully verified account in under 3 minutes. Users who do not want the automated identity verification for privacy purposes can still choose manual verification via secure file upload.

3. As before, no identity verification is required to sell Bitcoin or pay bills in Canada when the transaction is under $1000 Canadian dollars. 

4. Funding your account with Interac e-transfers is now instant! It shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds under normal circumstances. It used to take under 30 minutes during business hours because yes, we used to accept each e-transfer by hand and manually credit your account. Now it is all automated.

5. Sending e-transfers to anyone in Canada is now instant and by instant we mean from your lightning network wallet to your landlord’s bank account in under 10 seconds.

6. Paying your bills with Bitcoin will be considerably faster. We estimate it will take 24h less than it used to.

7. No more fees when selling Bitcoin! Instead of adding transaction fees when you pay bills or sell Bitcoin, we have replaced them with an all-inclusive Bitcoin price spread.

8. Transparent rates and spreads: the Bitcoin price spreads are now visible directly on the home page. Unlike other exchanges that hide (or even lie about) their exchange fees, our spreads are publicly visible and auditable in real time. Not only can you see the Buy Price and the Sell Price on the home page, you can also see the % markup applied. You don’t need to calculate for yourself Bull Bitcoin’s “spread”.

9. Our Canadian users are now able to send bank transfers to anyone in Costa Rica, Mexico or Europe. This is perfect for those of you sending remittances to your family in these countries, those of you living abroad or businesses that have employees or suppliers in these countries. No need for a bank account!

10. Users can fund their Bull Bitcoin account using local bank payment methods from Costa Rica (SINPE), Europe (SEPA) and Mexico (SPEI). These are also all instant.

11. You can now withdraw fiat currency from your account balance directly to your bank account via domestic wire transfer or e-transfer. Before, we required you to contact support and request a refund. There are no longer any fees charged when asking for a refund.

12. You can now receive Bitcoin directly to your Lightning Network address, in addition to LNURL, Bolt11, on-chain and Liquid.

13. On-chain Bitcoin transactions are now batched and paid out every hour. For express withdrawals, we have a smarter fee selection algorithm that will help you save on Bitcoin network fees.

14. We have created new backend software to craft transactions and manage coin selection in a way which protects you from malicious actors spying on your Bitcoin transactions.

15. No more email notifications when buying or selling Bitcoin to help protect your privacy.

16. Automatic log out of your Bull Bitcoin account after a certain time for more security.

17. A new referral program: we still give our referrers 0.5% of the transaction amount of other people they refer to us, but instead of giving a $20 sign-up bonus to your friends you will give them a lifetime 0.25% discount on the price of Bitcoin.

18. Customer support will be faster with longer opening hours, with support in French, English and Spanish.

Data Deletion of “inactive” Accounts and Old Transactions

We will permanently delete all the account information of users that have not made transactions since June 1 2020. This includes all your KYC and transaction data.

In addition, we will be permanently deleting all your transaction history prior to June 1 2020. If you wish to keep an archive of your transaction history, you will have 90 days to do so.

These measures are to protect the privacy of our users. We will no longer keep personal information of our users for longer than Canadian law mandates us to.

What is Coming Soon

The main difference between our previous software infrastructure and the new Bull Bitcoin is that we are now able to develop and release new features with 10x more speed. A feature which would have taken 6 months to build in the past will now take a couple of weeks.

Here is a preview of some features we will be releasing in the following months:

1. Recurring Buy (DCA) over Lighting and Liquid network: We were among the first Bitcoin exchanges in the world to offer a dollar-cost-averaging tool to our users. And, as far as we know, the first non-custodial exchange to do so. Now you will be able to buy Bitcoin every hour using the Lightning Network and Liquid Network, without having to worry about high fees and small utxos.

2. Auto-buy: you will be able to add a default Bitcoin/Lightning/Liquid address, or default xpub, to your Bull Bitcoin account. When turned on, the auto-buy option means that every time you send a bank transfer to Bull Bitcoin it will be automatically converted to Bitcoin and sent straight to your own wallet. You won’t even have to create a buy order anymore if you don’t want to/

3. Auto-sell: Bull Bitcoin will create for you a Bitcoin address, a Liquid address and a Lightning Network address. Any Bitcoin sent to any of these addresses is automatically converted to the fiat currency of your choice. No need to create a sell order anymore.

4. Payjoin deposits and withdrawals: we have created open-source software which allows you to send and receive Bitcoin on-chain on the Bull Bitcoin exchange via Payjoin. This incredible technology reduces transaction fees and increases your privacy.

5. Limit orders: you will be able to select the price at which you want to buy Bitcoin. When the Bitcoin price falls below that amount, a Bitcoin buy order will automatically be created for you and the funds sent straight to your own wallet. You can buy the dip while you sleep!
